Two days ago we had a 2-minute smith story on this box: three takes, two 8-frame fades, thirteen windows.1 The next script was longer. Sigils in the Steel is six locations, a Merovingian francisca, and a rock track with verses and choruses.

The generate list was 28 windows, not 28 music-video cuts. The driver finished all_pass at 2026-09-16 03:50 UTC. ffprobe on the join: 262.846 s / 6285 frames / 1344×768 / 24 fps, H.264 + AAC LC stereo 32 kHz, 169,207,079 bytes.

Michael watched it. Picture is the pin. It is not an exciting montage of action against the lyrics and the rock mix. That gap is in the prompt and the edit list, not in the UNET.

The question

On one GB10, can we land a ~4-minute narrative as six continuous takes, joined with the fade-to-black already locked as gold, without restoring FL2VA or Sol-H3?

A second question sat underneath it and we treated it as optional: will those takes feel like the song? They will not, unless the edit list matches the music. We wrote 10-second slow cameras with non_diegetic_music: N/A. H3 did what we asked.

A third gap was in the brief itself. Michael asked us to research a Merovingian axe. He did not pin one.

The brief

Todays video challenge for the MiniMax H3 setup with Comfy on the NVIDIA DGX Spark is to create the video portion, no audio needed, for a music vidio that will be no less than 4 minutes and 12 seconds in length. The opening ten second clip generated will have the title, subtitle, artists performing the song and writer/producer all in vivid text overlay that fits the theme of the song. The text will fade away and then there will only be video for the remainder of the total video. Use the Lyrics of the song to insprire the imagery and theme of this hard driving rock song. First research the Merovingian Axe, it's appearance, dimensions, so that the portrayal is accurate. The song is set in the age of Charlemagne so rendering of imagery should be consistant with that. Timings for the the beginning of each portion of the song are included so that as you work up the scenes for this video run you will understand where certain scenes should begin to be in synch with the song. During the run keep in mind lessons learned as far as needed cooldowns so the DGX Spark does not suffer heat failures.Use various camera angles and camera sweeps, pan and zooms, circle around chacters in freeze shots etc to draw interest. Keep in mind this will be set to a hard rock song so keep that in mind with color, theme etc. The video can be longer then 4 minutes and 12 seconds as I will take the final output into a video editor, mute any sound in the video, add the song and trim any video at the end

That is a song map. It is not an edit list, and it is not a prop card.

The axe was researched, not pinned

The brief's load-bearing sentence is: First research the Merovingian Axe, it's appearance, dimensions, so that the portrayal is accurate.

That is the wrong instruction for a 28-window generate. Wikipedia will give you a class of throwing axes (arch-shaped head, S-curve or convex top, short haft, ~12 m throw in Procopius). It will not give you this axe on this anvil for 40 hours. Francisca heads in the record are not one drawing. Research without a lock is how hops drift.

The lyrics already had numbers. We should have copied them into a pin before opening a browser:

What the driver actually locked after a Tavily/Wikipedia pass:

A Merovingian francisca: short pale ash-wood haft about forty-five centimeters overall, iron head about six hundred grams, square poll, tight teardrop eye, short iron socket, arch-shaped head widening to a crescent cutting edge about ten centimeters with pointed upper and lower corners, S-curve along the top of the head, dark forged iron with shallow carved sigils on both cheeks of the blade.

That paragraph mixed lyric numbers with encyclopedia shape language (arch-shaped, S-curve, pointed corners). It is better than "an old axe." It is still a composite. No photo. No museum object. No "do not invent a bearded blade / horned helm / plate armor" beyond the wardrobe lines. H3 will fill every unspecified millimeter, and Motion-Context will not put it back.

Process: lock the prop before hop-1. Dimensions, wood, color, one still if you have it. "Research the axe" is homework for the treatment, not a generate-time tool call. If the lyric sheet already has 45 cm / 600 g / 10 cm, copy those numbers and stop. Do not average three Wikipedia diagrams.

The same brief also asked for "various camera angles and camera sweeps, pan and zooms, circle around chacters in freeze shots" in one night. That fights the one-camera-verb rule we already measured.1 We collapsed to slow single-verb windows so the takes would hold. That saved continuity. It spent the rock energy.

What landed

Calendar: 2026-09-14 11:32 UTC → 2026-09-16 03:50 UTC (40.3 h), including dwells, parks, and 20 thermal retries. Denoise wall on the 28 PASS hops only: 33,285.5 s (9.25 h).

Inside a take: hop-1 is 243 frames / 10.125 s. Hop 2+ trims 22 frames and delivers 221 frames / 9.209 s. Concat with ffmpeg -c copy. Between takes: xfade=transition=fadeblack:duration=0.333333 plus matching acrossfade. Title card is ffmpeg over the first 8 s of Take A, which is why A is 47.000 s instead of 46.957 s.

Identity holds inside a take. It drifts at the fades. Same ceiling as the 2-minute smith.1 Ref2VA is still not loaded.

The stack

Occupancy did not change. Comfy native H3 on spark-56bc. Qwen3.8-Flash-Next stays on spark-d369. Sol-H3 and the joeynyc FL2VA API stayed drained.

--fast autotune is load-bearing for this checkpoint. The int8 ConvRot UNET has no FP8 weights. fp8_matrix_mult would be inert. Do not add it back unless the loader points at the fp8_scaled file.

Seeds were sequential per take: A 201–205, B 211–214, C 221–226, D 231–235, E 241–244, F 251–254.

Every prompt used the three-part FL2VA block with one [Shot 1], style Live-action, photoreal cinematic, crushed blacks, hot ember highlights, 24fps, one camera verb at small amplitude / slow speed, a last-second hold, diegetic foley, and non_diegetic_music: N/A. No <d> lines. The docstring on the driver is explicit: no spoken dialogue.

Read from spark-56bc at 2026-09-16 06:15 EDT, GPU idle after all_pass. These are the live node pins, not a datasheet.

GB10 still has no nvidia-smi power cap. You cannot nvidia-smi -pl your way out of 85°C. Applications clocks sit at 2418 MHz; the silicon can boost to 3003. We did not lock clocks down for this run. Persistence stayed on.

Do not bind 0.0.0.0. There is no Comfy auth.

Thermal: 20 aborts, then a desk fan

Abort events in sigils.jsonl fired at reported 85–86°C / 93–96%. Live driver pin is temp >= 86. Cap 4 attempts per hop, then the supervisor parks. We never regenerated a finished take.

B1 was the hole. Starting hop-1 of a new take on a soaked sink at 52–58°C is how you donate a 4-cap park. The driver already knew this (wait_cool comment). We still did it once.

Cool gates in the live driver, three of them, not one:

The 50°C abort gate is the one that sat at 51°C for over an hour on the morning of 15 Sep. Evening floor on this chassis after a soaked day is often 52–54°C. Die is not the sink.

Michael put a desk fan on the chassis before C1 attempt 2 (05:51 EDT). That attempt: PASS, 1062.1 s, peak 83°C, last sample 74°C. The two fan-off C1 tries had died at t=240 s / 85°C and t=882 s / 86°C. Hop dwell after C1 sat at 50°C, not 54.

C2–C4 then passed first try at 83 / 83 / 84°C. The fan did not delete 85°C. Eight more aborts still happened on later hops of C–E. It dropped the peak about 2°C and made the 50–52°C gates reachable. That was enough to finish.

We are installing better cooling on this Spark later today. Stock GB10 cooling cannot hold 96% denoise for a 9-hour GPU night without a fan in the aisle. There is still no power limit. Active cooling is the lever.

What worked

  1. Takes, not cards. Six locations, six latent prefixes, 28 hops. Collapse first.
  2. SaveLatent on every hop-1. Unique sigilAsigilF. Load by exact filename.
  3. Keep finished takes. Take A stayed on disk through B1's eight deaths.
  4. On-box driver + supervisor. Hermes SSH dies around 420 s. The GPU does not.
  5. 8-frame fadeblack between takes. No dissolve. No -c copy across a scene change.
  6. Desk fan. First cheap thermal win we have measured on this node: C1 83°C vs 85/86.
  7. 6-step turbo at 1344×768. Hop-1 wall is a metronome: 1062–1082 s. Hop 2+ 1222–1224 s.
  8. No speech. Last-second hold. The 2-minute smith taught us the fade eats a line at 9.8 s.1 This script did not donate syllables to acrossfade.

What still fails

The song is not in the picture. Every window is one slow 10 s shot with music N/A. A chorus that wants cuts every 1–2 s will look like a handsome nature documentary of a battle. Picture quality is not the same as editorial energy.

The axe was a wiki composite. "Research the Merovingian axe" produced a plausible paragraph, not a measured object. 45 cm / 600 g / 10 cm were already in the lyrics. We still averaged encyclopedia shape language on top. Hops can only hold what hop-1 locked.

The brief asked for every camera at once. Pan, zoom, and circle-around in the same night fights the one-verb rule. We picked continuity over montage. That was a generate choice, not a model limit.

85°C is still the night. Twenty aborts, all thermal, all retried. A fan moved the mean. It did not move the abort line. Until the new cooler is on the box, plan 4-cap parks into the calendar. Sunday 23:30 America/New_York weekly reboot still skips only if GPU util ≥5%.

The 50°C abort hold can deadlock. After C1's first death the die sat at 51°C for ~64 min. The supervisor also resumed once on cool_timeout gpu=51 limit=50, which the skill forbids. That retry aborted at 86°C. Do not cool_timeout_proceed.

Identity across fades. Wardrobe lock is not a face lock. Six smiths/warriors at the cuts until Ref2VA stills load.

H3 still invents audio. non_diegetic_music: N/A plus "no speech" still yields forge foley and the occasional mouth. Do not mix a mastered rock track under that AAC and expect sync. Replace or duck the AAC in the edit.

Drive preview. rclone ls size 169,207,079 matched local bytes. If the browser says "still processing," download the file.

Prompts and timing for music

This is the part we got wrong on purpose, then noticed in the watch.

Motion-Context hops are one continuous take. That is the right tool for verse: same forge, same grade, hammer then punch then lift. It is the wrong tool for a rock chorus. A chorus is an edit list of short shots on the downbeat.

Write the lyric sheet as an edit list first

For each bar or line: start time in the song, window duration, location, one camera verb, join type (continue / cut / fadeblack-8f). If two lines share a location and a camera, they may be one hop. If the drum fill wants a new angle, that is a new T2V, not hop N+1.

Do not ask a 10 s slow push-in onto an axe eye to carry a shouted chorus. The model will give you a beautiful axe. The mix will keep going without it.

Timing inside a 10 s window

Native window is 10.125 s (243 f @ 24 fps). Fadeblack offset is duration − 0.333 s.

  • One camera verb. Amplitude + speed, not "truck and orbit."
  • One location, one grade. Night charcoal and dawn river are two windows.
  • If anything must land before a fade, finish it by 8.0 s. Last 1–2 s is a hold only when the next join is fadeblack.
  • Drop the hold on chorus windows you will hard-cut. The hold is why the 4-minute file feels like it keeps pausing.
  • Shot timestamps if you need more than one beat in 10 s: [Shot 1] … [Shot 2] At 00:03.000 … [Shot 3] At 00:07.000. Ostris 1k: most 5 s prompts are one shot; three shots is already rare. We used one shot in every window. That is a calm take, not a montage.
  • Spoken line: <d>[English] …</d> finished by 8 s, ASR before join. We skipped speech on this run. Keep skipping until lipsync is a quality pin.

Music field vs the mastered track

We set non_diegetic_music: N/A and mixed the rock later. H3 then invented forge foley into the AAC. Two clean options:

  1. Score in the edit. Keep N/A, strip or duck AAC, lay the mastered track on the timeline, cut picture to the waveform. This is the music-video path. The 28-window file is B-roll until you recut it.
  2. Score in the prompt. Fill non_diegetic_music with instrumentation, tempo, and sync points (crescendo hit on the throw). H3 will generate a rock bed. It will not lock to your lyric track. Do not expect chorus downbeats to match.

Do not do both and hope. Double music is how you get a drum kit fighting a hammer.

Chorus recipe (next spend, not this file)

Three to six independent 2–5 s T2Vs at the same 1344×768 / 6-step turbo. One action per clip (throw, impact, ride, spark burst). Hard cut on the snare. No Motion-Context, no 8-frame fade, no last-second hold. Watch identity: these will be different faces unless you condition. That is acceptable for a montage; it is not acceptable if you promised one warrior.

Budget: a 5 s window at this resolution is still ~8–10 min of GPU if we drop length. Measure before promising a 12-cut chorus in an hour. Do not sneak duration=15 on the old FL2VA API.

What we will do next

  1. Install the better cooler on spark-56bc today. Re-measure hop-1 peak against the 83°C fan-on C1.
  2. Lock a francisca prop card (and a still, if we have one) before any reshoot. Do not research mid-generate.
  3. Recut Sigils against the waveform: verse takes stay, choruses become short T2Vs.
  4. Leave Ref2VA off until we ask for one face across fades.
  5. Do not restore Sol-H3 or FL2VA to "fix" energy. Energy is an edit.
  6. Do not publish the MP4s.

  • Spark clocks, power, persistence, kernel, CPU governor: nvidia-smi -q and /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ at 2026-09-16 06:15 EDT, GPU idle. Clock-event counters are node lifetime, not isolated to this job.
  • Denoise 9.25 h is the sum of PASS hop walls only. Partial aborted denoises are extra GPU time not in that sum.
