Sales Agent and Service Agent Are Now Generally Available in Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot's Sales Agent and Service Agent reached general availability this week, bringing AI-driven deal intelligence and case resolution directly into Outlook, Teams, and Dynamics 365. Here's how to start using them.

Microsoft 365 Copilot has spent the last year evolving from a helpful writing partner into a genuine teammate that can act across your work graph. This week, that evolution took another concrete step: Sales Agent and Service Agent are now generally available inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. Built on Dynamics 365 data and Microsoft's Work IQ, these agents live where your sellers and service professionals already work — Outlook, Teams, the Copilot app, and Dynamics 365 — and they handle some of the most time-consuming parts of customer-facing jobs.
If you are in a revenue or support role, this is not a future roadmap slide. It is a set of features you can turn on and use now. If you are an IT leader, it is a signal that agentic work is becoming a standard part of the Microsoft 365 experience, not a side experiment.
What Sales Agent and Service Agent Actually Do
The two agents are designed for different customer-facing functions, but they share a common design philosophy: they pull together CRM data, Microsoft 365 signals, and AI reasoning to give people the right context at the right moment, without forcing them to switch between tools.
Sales Agent is for sellers. It can:
- Surface account and opportunity summaries in natural language.
- Pull in past meetings, emails, and notes so a seller walks into a conversation prepared.
- Draft personalized follow-up emails grounded in Dynamics 365 Sales data.
- Capture key takeaways, objections, and next steps after a call.
- Update CRM records without leaving Outlook or Teams.
Service Agent is for customer service professionals. It can:
- Generate concise case summaries so an agent is instantly up to speed.
- Suggest next best actions based on case history and knowledge articles.
- Draft customer-ready emails with resolution details.
- Update case records and notes from within the flow of work.
The idea is not to replace the seller or the service rep. It is to give them back the time they currently spend hunting through inboxes, CRM records, and meeting notes so they can focus on the customer conversation itself.
Why General Availability Matters
These agents were previewed earlier in the year. General availability means several practical things for organizations:
- Production support and SLAs now apply, which matters for enterprise deployments.
- Licensing and billing are clear, with the agents available to eligible Microsoft 365 Copilot and Dynamics 365 customers.
- Admin controls are in place, so IT can manage availability, permissions, and data access.
- Partner and ISV ecosystems can build on these agents with more confidence because the APIs and behaviors are stable.
For a Microsoft shop, GA is usually the moment when a feature moves from "interesting preview" to "something we can rollout with governance."
Grounded in the Data You Already Trust
A recurring question with any AI agent is where it gets its information. Sales Agent and Service Agent are grounded in Dynamics 365 Sales and Dynamics 365 Customer Service data, respectively. That means the account records, opportunities, cases, contacts, and activity history your organization already maintains become the source of truth for the agent's responses.
They also use Work IQ, the Microsoft 365 feature that understands your organization's work patterns — who has been in which meetings, which documents are authoritative, and how projects are connected. The combination gives the agents both structured CRM context and unstructured collaboration context.
The result is that a seller can ask, "What happened with the Contoso deal last week?" and get an answer that combines the CRM opportunity history with recent Teams meetings and email threads. A service rep can open a case and immediately see a summary that includes the customer's recent interactions, not just the case title.
Built on a Common Agentic Foundation
Microsoft has been building toward this moment across several layers. The announcement highlights that Sales Agent and Service Agent use Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools and MCP apps, which is the same standard Microsoft is pushing across Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, GitHub Copilot, and Dataverse.
MCP is what lets an agent discover and use tools across systems with a common connection model. For example, a Sales Agent might use an MCP tool to query Dynamics 365, another to search SharePoint, and another to draft an email in Outlook. The agent does not need bespoke integrations for each system; it connects through the MCP layer.
That matters because it means the agent architecture is extensible. Today, Sales Agent works with Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365. Tomorrow, certified partner MCPs and internal "bring your own MCP" servers can extend the same agent into line-of-business systems, proprietary data sources, and industry-specific workflows.
Where They Show Up
Both agents are available across multiple surfaces:
- Microsoft 365 Copilot app
- Outlook
- Microsoft Teams
- Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service
This multi-surface availability is important because it means the agent meets users where they are. A seller can ask Sales Agent a question in Outlook while reviewing a customer email. A service manager can use Service Agent inside a Teams channel to coordinate a complex escalation. The context travels with the user rather than forcing the user to travel to the context.
Copilot Cowork Extends the Same Work Into Collaboration
Sales Agent and Service Agent also plug into Copilot Cowork, the multi-step agentic assistant that reached general availability last month. Through the Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service plugins for Cowork, revenue and service teams can orchestrate more complex, multi-stakeholder work.
For sales, that might mean coordinating account research, meeting prep, and follow-ups across a team working a large deal. For customer service, it might mean running a case review, pulling in customer health signals, and aligning the team on next steps. Cowork adds the collaborative layer on top of the individual agent capabilities.
A Practical Starting Point for Sellers
If you are a seller with access to Sales Agent, here is a simple way to start:
- Pick one active opportunity where you feel like you are spending too much time gathering context before calls.
- Ask Sales Agent for an account summary in the Copilot app, Outlook, or Teams. Use a prompt like: "Summarize the Contoso opportunity, including recent meetings, open tasks, and next steps."
- Review the draft follow-up email it can generate after your next customer call. Edit it in your voice, but notice how much of the factual groundwork is already done.
- Use it to update CRM after the call. Capture notes, objections, and commitments directly from Outlook or Teams so the opportunity record stays current.
After a week, you will have a clear sense of where the agent saves time and where it still needs your judgment.
A Practical Starting Point for Service Teams
For service professionals, the easiest entry point is case summarization:
- Open a case in Dynamics 365 Customer Service or the Copilot app.
- Ask Service Agent for a summary of what has happened so far, including customer communications and attempted resolutions.
- Review the suggested next best action before acting on it.
- Draft the customer response using the agent's suggested email, then personalize and send.
This is the kind of workflow where the agent's value is immediate. Instead of reading through a long case thread, the rep gets a concise briefing and a starting point for the next interaction.
What IT and Admins Should Know
For IT leaders preparing to enable these agents, a few points are worth keeping in mind:
- Licensing: Sales Agent and Service Agent are available to eligible Microsoft 365 Copilot customers with Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service. Check Microsoft's current licensing guidance for specifics.
- Permissions: The agents respect existing Dynamics 365 role-based access controls. A seller only sees account data they are authorized to see.
- Data residency and governance: Because these agents operate within the Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 trust boundary, the same compliance, audit, and data protection policies apply.
- MCP governance: If your organization plans to extend these agents with custom or partner MCPs, start with a clear approval process. Microsoft's MCP certification program and bring-your-own-MCP controls can help.
The rollout pattern that tends to work best is a pilot with a small group of power users, followed by broader enablement once the team understands the workflows and cost patterns.
The Bigger Picture
Sales Agent and Service Agent are part of a broader Microsoft bet: that the future of work is not humans asking AI for paragraphs, but humans delegating multi-step, context-rich tasks to AI teammates. We have seen the same pattern in Copilot Cowork, in the Azure Copilot Observability Agent, in collaborative agents for Microsoft Teams, and in the growing MCP ecosystem across Dataverse and Azure AI Foundry.
What is different about Sales Agent and Service Agent is that they target two of the most relationship-driven functions in any business: selling and serving customers. These are roles where the human touch still matters enormously, but where the administrative overhead can consume half the day. The agent is not replacing the relationship. It is protecting the time available for it.
If your organization already runs on Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365, the infrastructure, trust model, and data foundation are in place. The question is no longer whether AI agents can operate in your CRM. The question is which teams will learn to work with them first.
