Hermes Changelog
2026-06
OpenHome DevKit integration
Hermes is the agent runtime paired with the OpenHome DevKit, a voice-first AI hardware device expected to ship around June 24, 2026. The DevKit provides real-time speech input and output, streaming audio, and local inference support. Hermes acts as the orchestration layer that routes voice input to the right model or tool.
Real-time agent presence
The Hermes + OpenHome combination enables always-on, conversational agents that can listen, think, and respond with low latency. This is a different interaction model than chat-based agents: it is ambient, interruptible, and voice-native.
2026-05
Local runtime stabilization
Hermes continued to stabilize its local execution model, with better support for Ollama, vLLM, and other local inference backends. The focus is on letting agents run entirely on-device or on a private home server.
What this means for users
Hermes is the most interesting option if you want a privacy-first, voice-native agent that does not depend on cloud APIs. It is still early, and the hardware is not widely available yet, but the combination of local runtime + voice hardware is a credible alternative to Alexa, Siri, and cloud assistant services.
What to watch
- OpenHome DevKit reviews once hardware is in the wild.
- Latency and accuracy of real-time voice pipelines.
- How the Hermes skill/model ecosystem grows.
