What it is

ChatGPT Slides is a deck you make and keep editing with a team in Space. OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes, in the October 16, 2026 section, say you can start from a conversation, from files, from an outline, or from an example deck that guides style and layout.

The start line is specific. Ask ChatGPT in Work to create a presentation in Space. The notes do not name a Slides button, a model picker, or a template gallery. If that ask does nothing, stop. Do not invent the next menu.

When to use it

Use it when the deck has to live in Space and more than one person needs to edit it there. The notes say you can edit text, images, shapes, and charts yourself, or ask ChatGPT to make the changes. You can generate custom images or add your own. Teammates can edit the same deck in real time and leave shared comments. You can present from ChatGPT.

If the job is a one-off file you will finish in another app, the export lines matter more than the live edit. On the web, the notes say you can export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides. In the desktop app, you can open the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote when those apps are installed. The notes do not say the mobile apps export.

What it does well

The useful part is the container, not a claim about design taste. The notes put creation, direct edit, generated images, shared comments, present, and export in one product, and they name the door: Work, then a presentation in Space.

This directory did not create a deck. Nothing here is a quality score.

Honest limitations
  • Rollout is not "everyone on a paid plan." The notes say eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise users with Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. They do not say Plus. They do not say a free account. If you are outside that sentence, do not brief Slides as available.
  • Managed workspaces are not in that sentence either. A later October 16 note on the same release-notes page, about GPT-6 Pro, says availability in managed workspaces depends on workspace settings and rollout eligibility. That sentence is about GPT-6 Pro, not about Slides. Do not borrow it as a Slides rule. Do not ignore a workspace admin who says Space is off.
  • The notes do not print a separate Slides price. This run did not open a pricing page for Slides. Do not write "$0" or a per-deck fee. The cost, if any, is whatever plan already includes the eligible Space seat. That dollar amount is not on the page fetched here.
  • Export depends on the client. Web gets PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides. Desktop opens PowerPoint or Keynote only when those apps are installed. A missing app is not an export format.
  • Asking in Work is the documented start. A prompt in a normal Chat tab is not the path the notes name.
Pricing reality

No number. The October 16 Slides section names plans and Space access. It does not name a price. Until a pricing page lists a Slides line, do not invent one.
