Bolt.new
StackBlitz · 2025
FreemiumCloudMulti-platform
Prompt-to-full-stack platform from StackBlitz. Spin up React/Node apps with databases, auth, hosting, and analytics from a single conversation.
When to choose bolt.new
Choose Bolt when you have an app idea and want to be looking at a working URL within minutes, not days. It is the fastest way to move from "what if?" to a deployed full-stack prototype with database, auth, and frontend in place.
What it does well
- End-to-end generation. A single prompt can produce a React frontend, Node backend, data models, and auth wiring. You do not have to glue the layers together.
- Built-in deployment. Hosting, databases, and analytics are included. There is no separate Vercel or Supabase setup step.
- Import and export. Bring in Figma designs or GitHub repos, then push the finished work back out to GitHub when you are ready for production tooling.
- Rapid iteration. You can keep refining through chat: change the UI, add a feature, fix a bug — the agent applies the change across the whole app.
- Browser-based workspace. No local install required. It runs on StackBlitz's WebContainer technology entirely in the browser tab.
Honest limitations
- Cloud lock-in. The fastest path runs on StackBlitz infrastructure. You can export, but the native hosting and database are proprietary.
- Code quality varies. Prototypes ship fast; production refactoring is still on you. Complex apps can accumulate architectural shortcuts.
- Limited model control. You use the models Bolt selects. There is no BYO-key or local-model fallback.
- Not for large codebases. It shines on greenfield MVPs, not on joining a team with years of existing code.
Best fit
Founders, designers, and indie hackers who need to validate ideas or build small production apps quickly. Best treated as a fast prototype-to-GitHub workflow rather than a long-term production host.
