Honest limitations
- Not a coding agent. ChatGPT generates code but does not edit files, run terminals, or integrate with git. For production coding, use Claude Code, Cursor, or Aider.
- Knowledge cutoff. Even with browsing, core model knowledge has a cutoff date. Perplexity is better for real-time research.
- Hallucinations. ChatGPT is confident even when wrong. Always verify critical facts, especially in technical, legal, or medical domains.
- Privacy. Conversations are processed on OpenAI's servers. Not suitable for proprietary code, patient data, or classified information without Enterprise agreements.
- Tool depth. The code interpreter and browse mode are useful but shallow compared to dedicated agents. They are conveniences, not replacements.
