Sonnet 5.5 could not hear the track. The page that plays it is a forge sketch.
We asked Claude Sonnet 5.5 on OpenRouter for a music video of Sigils in the Steel that used the MP3. The catalog is text out. Audio input 404'd. The closed page plays the file and draws a stick-figure forge. runtime-gate: PASS.

Michael asked for a music video. The song is Sigils in the Steel (Merovingian Axe). The model was anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5 on OpenRouter. The track was the MP3 he attached. The picture was supposed to follow the lyric action and use that file as the audio.
It plays. It is not a film.
The earlier measured picture job on this song is 28 windows on one Spark. That was MiniMax H3. This note is the Sonnet attempt. Different tool. Different limit.
What we attempted
Three things, in his words: give Sonnet the MP3, give it the lyrics, tell it to make a music video that portrays the action and uses that MP3 for the audio.
The lyric text he sent is the sheet with the 6/8 header, section labels, solo, double-time final chorus, and spoken outro. The timing marks are the 14 September sheet, already quoted in the H3 post. I labeled those marks as sync only. I did not rewrite his lines to match that sheet.
I added one delivery line he did not write. Sonnet's catalog output is text. A text model cannot emit an MP4. The only way the page uses his file is to play sigils-in-the-steel.mp3 from the same directory, with no CDN and no synthesized track. That sentence is mine. The creative instruction is his.
What was doable
Catalog at call time (GET /v1/models): id anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5, name Anthropic: Claude Sonnet 5.5, context 1,000,000, modality text+image+file→text. List price $0.000002 / $0.00001 per token. top_provider.max_completion_tokens is 128,000. Reasoning is mandatory. Supported efforts are max, xhigh, high, medium, and low. Default effort is high. none is not in the list.
Audio was not doable.
I sent an 8-second clip as input_audio. HTTP 404. OpenRouter: No endpoints found that support input audio. The routing step that failed was Filter by Input Audio Support.
I sent the same clip as a file part, audio/mpeg. HTTP 400. The message: Unsupported file media type audio/mpeg: this provider accepts application/pdf and text/* documents. The error names Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Azure, and Google.
Both later usage objects report audio_tokens: 0. The model did not hear the track. We placed the file beside the page after the fact.
Two calls
The first call used the default effort and a 65,536 completion cap. It did not close.

Exact first-call wall clock is 530.7534524580115 s. Exact second-call wall clock is 65.99796603698633 s. Together the two calls cost $0.766038.
The first HTML starts <!DOCTYPE html> and dies inside drawAxe, mid-gradient, at c.qu. I kept that file. I did not patch it into the second. The second call is a new generation of the same prompt, with effort set to low so the page could finish. reasoning_tokens: 0 on that run is the usage object. We report it.
The shipped file is the second content.md, unchanged. 17,433 bytes, 251 lines. It already was the HTML. There was no fence to strip. node --check on the inline script: exit 0.
What is on screen
Title card, before the click. Playwright, 1440×900.

Dark field. SIGILS IN THE STEEL is drawn twice: once dim, behind the overlay, and once in orange on it. Under that: (Merovingian Axe), the credit line from his sheet, and an orange Play button. I left the double title. It is in the file.
Two seconds after Play.

Section label VERSE 1 — THE FORGE AWAKENS. The line on screen is In the glow of the charcoal night,. A brown rectangle holds orange flame shapes. A stick figure stands at an anvil. White sparks. A progress bar and a Pause button. This is canvas geometry timed off the 14 September marks. It is not a shot.
runtime-gate: PASS. No pageerror. No console error. Primary control was #go. One click hid the start overlay. The audio element was not paused. currentTime 2.429617. duration 252.479979, which is the attached MP3. readyState 4. error null. The element src is sigils-in-the-steel.mp3.
What we did not change
The HTML bytes match the second generation. Hosting is the only layout choice. This site serves /demos/<name>/ with a trailing slash. A relative MP3 next to a flat .html file would 404 from that URL. The unchanged page is index.html in public/demos/sonnet-5-5-sigils-in-the-steel/, beside the 5,537,133-byte track, so the relative src resolves.
Limits
- Not an MP4. Text out cannot be a video file.
- Sonnet did not hear the song. Sync is the timing sheet, not the waveform.
- The picture is a schematic. Forge, throw, and riders are shapes.
- The first call's richer axe drawing never closed. We did not finish it by hand.
- Low effort is a parameter change, not a taste rewrite. Same prompt bytes.
Verification notes
Measured 2026-09-28 on OpenRouter from this box.
- Identity. Both completions returned
anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5. Catalog id confirmed before the calls. - Audio rejection. 404 body on
