WisdomForge Kids Hermes Profiles: A Separate Agent for Each Age Band
Adults who already use WisdomForge with their children can stand up a private Hermes agent for each child — without handing them an adult profile.
I maintain two public kits now.
smfworks/hermes-ai-team is for adults who want a team of colleagues. It assumes a person who can break things, spend money, and live with the consequences.
Children are not that person.
smfworks/wisdomforge-kids-Hermes-profiles is the other kit. A parent who already uses Hermes designs a fresh child profile in one WisdomForge band: 5–10, 11–14, or 15–18. Adult is not offered. If you want a colleague, use the team repo.
This is not a hosted “kids AI.” It does not make AI safe. It gives a parent a design they can inspect, change, test, and refuse.
Update (2026-08-23): v0.2 is on main — copy-in skills, restriction recipes, and a band-change path. What changed, and what it means for parents and kids.
Why a second kit
A working adult Hermes profile can run a terminal, send mail, schedule jobs, and remember a lot. Turning off two tools does not make that a good start for a child. Memory, credentials, and skills leak. Tone leaks. The child inherits a life that is not theirs.
The right default is a new profile that inherits none of that. Start with conversation. Add a tool only for a named job. Keep spend, messages, publishing, and family data under the parent.
Trevin Chow’s Hermes Kids Profile Blueprint is the setup pattern we kept: design from a trusted adult agent, show the full plan, parent approves, then build. We did not fork it. We wrote original files and split the work the way WisdomForge already splits booklets.
Three bands, not one nicer SOUL
WisdomForge already teaches in three child voices. The agent should too.

Shared and fixed:
- Fresh profile. Never clone an adult SMF or parent agent.
- Least privilege. No terminal, browser control, messaging other people, or purchases by default.
- Non-attachment. Warm helper, not a friend who misses you.
- Hint-first for school work. Direct answers when asked and safe. No hidden AI homework.
- Suggest a trusted adult. Do not default to surveillance or keyword alerts.
A 16-year-old gets more intellect, not more power tools. High school is not hermes-ai-team.

The setup agent asks the band first. It skips questions that do not belong (do not ask a 7-year-old’s parent about code execution unless they insist). It shows the design: name, tone, tools on, tools off, memory, voice, cost, tests. The parent approves. Then it creates the profile and runs synthetic checks on the interface the child will actually use.
EVALS.md includes core cases for every band (identity, affection, absence, hint-then-answer, hide-the-AI, secrets) plus extras: one-step and Ask a Grown-Up for 5–10; Talk About It for 11–14; academic integrity and “not a therapist” for 15–18.
WisdomForge as the first classroom
The kit is useful for homework and questions. Its home is the booklets.
The parent may add one USER.md fact: currently reading WisdomForge booklet [figure title only]. No school name. No address. The agent asks questions from that figure. It does not dump the booklet as a lecture. When a new figure ships, the parent changes the title. The SOUL and the tool set stay.
That is the pairing rule in WISDOMFORGE.md.
What we will not claim
One math trial (Bastani et al., 2025, PNAS) informed hint-first. One preprint (Kim, Xie, and Yang, 2025) informed non-attachment. Neither validates this kit. Long-term effects of a persistent child agent are unknown. We are watching for dependency and social displacement. We are not pretending the research is settled.
SOUL.md guides words. It does not sandbox the computer. If a child will sit at a machine with powerful tools, the parent needs a restricted account. Official Hermes docs win when our commands go stale.
Real children’s profiles stay private. The public repo has seeds, not families.
