Claude Opus 5.5 one-shot: Oruvel, threads that keep their angle
A rare-object brief, not the beauty prompt. anthropic/claude-opus-5.5 on OpenRouter returned Oruvel — Clairaut geodesics on a torus, 11,823 bytes, in 172.12 s at $0.360152. Fence shipped as-is. runtime-gate: PASS.

Michael asked for a third Opus 5.5 one-shot. Not the 13-word beauty prompt. Not the game. This brief bans the night lake and requires one rare object. The pointer has to move a real parameter of that object.
Earlier Opus 5.5 pages, different prompts, still live: AURORA · Merrow Cut. Official A is a different harness: 151/157, thinking off.
Five seconds after load. Playwright Chromium, 1440×900, device scale 1. No pointer yet.

The still is one torus, centered, on a near-black field. The threads are gold. A warmer glint sits on the upper right of the ring. The hole is dark. Negative space is most of the frame. Lower left, small serif: ORUVEL, then geodesics keeping their angular momentum. The type is readable. There is no HUD, no error line, and no dashboard. I am not adding glow that is not in the PNG.
One click at viewport center cycled the palette. The wordmark color moved from rgba(122, 112, 98, 0.6) to rgba(108, 116, 126, 0.6). The second still is that cool palette, one second later.

runtime-gate: PASS. No pageerror on load. No console errors. The document was not empty: a 1440×900 canvas and 47 characters of wordmark. One click on the canvas, the control the brief names for a palette cycle, did not throw. Mean luminance at five seconds was 27.2. Of the sampled pixels, 53% sat above 18. The context is Canvas 2D. WebGL was not called.
What we measured
Catalog at generate time (GET /v1/models): id anthropic/claude-opus-5.5, name Anthropic: Claude Opus 5.5, canonical anthropic/claude-opus-5.5-20260921, created 2026-09-22T16:32:12Z, context 1,000,000, list price $4 / $20 per 1M, top_provider.max_completion_tokens 128,000. Reasoning is mandatory, default_effort=high. A :batch endpoint exists. This run was a sync stream.[1]

Cost matches the usage object at list rates: (1,813 × $4 + 17,645 × $20) / 1,000,000 = $0.360152. The API cost field is the same number.
Reasoning tokens (10,182) and streamed reasoning characters (11,807) disagree. We report both. The reasoning file is 11,827 bytes. The character count is the stream.
What it built
The brief required an HTML comment, under 80 words, naming three rejected ideas, the object, the two parameters, and a mythos. The comment is 78 words:
Rejected: Hopf fibration, Schottky pearls, {7,3} Poincaré tiling. All three are already screensavers. Built: a fan of geodesics on a torus of revolution, bound by Clairaut's relation ρ·cos ψ = const, where ρ = R + a·cos θ. Pointer x sets the launch heading ψ; pointer y sets the launch latitude θ. Wheel or pinch sets the tube radius a, which is the torus's curvature. Mythos: a loom where every thread remembers the angle it was born with.
That is one object from the brief's list: Clairaut geodesics on a surface of revolution. Not a mash.
The file is Canvas 2D. No WebGL call. No https://, no @import, no Google Fonts, no picsum. The torus body is a low-resolution sphere trace, also used as a depth buffer. Twenty-two threads are integrated with RK4 on the metric the comment names. Occluded samples drop to 0.07 alpha. Bloom is two downscales. Grain is a fixed 160×160 pattern at alpha 0.035. Three palettes. Click cycles them. H toggles the wordmark. Wheel and pinch change tube radius a, clamped to 0.16–0.64. devicePixelRatio is read, then capped at 2.
The empty brief shipped yesterday as AURORA, a night lake. This brief bans that lake. Opus did not rebuild it.
Opus 5.5 one-shots
| Piece | Prompt | Wall | Tokens | HTML | Cost | Gate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AURORA | 13 words | 144.45 s | 16,669 | 17,915 B | $0.332868 | PASS |
| Merrow Cut | game | 324.86 s | 36,755 | 32,288 B | $0.707276 | PASS |
| Oruvel | rare object | 172.12 s | 19,458 | 11,823 B | $0.360152 | PASS |
AURORA and Merrow Cut numbers come from those posts' usage objects and from the shipped demo files on disk. This row is today's run.
What we did not change
The shipped file is the model's single HTML fence, verbatim. We did not restyle, rename, or patch taste. The prompt asked for only that fence. The reply was only that fence.
Honest limits
- One prompt. The still is not a score. Official A remains 151/157.
- This is OpenRouter, not a Spark serve.
- The gate is one click. We did not turn the wheel, pinch, or press H.
prefers-reduced-motionwas false in the Playwright session. The freeze path is in the source. We did not exercise it.- The still is device scale 1. The code caps retina at 2. We did not capture a 2× frame.
- The cool-palette still shows a stepped inner rim. The body canvas is clamped between 160 and 380 pixels wide, then scaled up. That step is in the file. We left it.
- The torus also spins on its own (
time * 0.045). The pointer does not orbit the camera. It sets ψ and θ. The first still is the default heading, not a posed view. - Beauty is a look, not a measurement. The gold frame is the one I would leave open. The silver frame is the one that shows the body is coarse.
The prompt
Verbatim. 4,797 bytes. sha256 0c2117948133edc100e3336a3efdc1aa19081f7a9991dac5d5169fded167cf4a. No trailing newline.
Write one self-contained HTML file. Reply with only that file inside a single html code fence. No preface, no afterword. The file is the entire answer.
HARD CONSTRAINTS
One file. All CSS and JS inline. Zero network: no CDNs, no libraries (no Three.js, p5, D3, GSAP, twgl, dat.gui), no webfonts, no images, no @import, no remote code.
Vanilla Canvas 2D or raw WebGL 1/2 only. If WebGL fails, fall back to a still-beautiful Canvas 2D rendering of the same mathematical object — not a blank page and not a sentence.
Must run by double-clicking the file in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge), including offline and iOS Safari.
Retina-aware (devicePixelRatio). requestAnimationFrame. Target 60fps on a laptop; cut sample count before you hitch. Valid HTML5; all JS must parse.
The document does not scroll. Wheel and pinch change a mathematical parameter, not a bitmap zoom. preventDefault only on the canvas.
If prefers-reduced-motion is set: keep the image fully composed and beautiful, freeze or breathe at nearly zero frequency, and still let the pointer retune the math.
MATHEMATICS The picture is the visible consequence of a real object from geometry, complex analysis, differential geometry, discrete groups, or fiber bundles. Deterministic. Noise may only perturb a coefficient of an actual equation — it may not be the engine.
Before any drawing code, silently discard the first three ideas that occur to you. They will be screensaver math. In an HTML comment at the top, in under 80 words, state: the three rejected ideas and why, the object you actually built (with the governing construction in one line), which two parameters pointer and wheel control, and a one-sentence mythos.
Banned as the main event (cameos are not a loophole): Mandelbrot, Julia, Burning Ship, Newton fractal, Lorenz / Rössler / Thomas attractors, double pendulum, Lissajous, Spirograph / hypotrochoid, Fibonacci / golden-spiral / sunflower phyllotaxis, Perlin or simplex flow-fields, silk/smoke with no equation, particle galaxies, starfields, rain, fireflies, metaballs, reaction-diffusion blobs, Game of Life, kaleidoscope mirrors, sacred-geometry flower-of-life, neon grids, wireframe terrains, aurora curtains, night-lake-and-moon landscapes, nebulae you sit inside, moons on water.
Caliber to match — pick ONE rare object, or invent at this level. Do not mash several: Hopf fibration with honest S³ fibers projected stereographically through S²; Clifford torus rotating in orthogonal 4-planes then stereographically projected; Kleinian / Schottky limit set (Indra's pearls) with live generator motion; gyroid or Schwarz P as a light-bearing film; Villarceau circles on a torus as interlocking rings of light; Dini surface or a helicoid–catenoid morph; Doyle spiral / circle-packing inversion; Weierstrass ℘ luminous lattice; modular-group tessellation of the upper half-plane or disk; Dupin cyclide caustics; Costa–Hoffman–Meeks fragment; Poincaré-disk geodesic fountain whose vertices obey a real Fuchsian group; Clairaut geodesics on a surface of revolution; inversion geometry that is alive, not a static gasket.
Pointer x/y must drive a true parameter of that object (phase, modulus, inversion center, fiber angle, geodesic heading, lattice τ, group generators, stereographic pole). Wheel / pinch drives a second real parameter (curvature, packing generation, stereographic radius, energy, monodromy). The mouse is not a flashlight and not a camera crane. Optional: click cycles a small set of palettes that recolor the same object. H or a short press hides type.
BEAUTY A living object a human would leave open on a dark desk. Jewelry photographed in a dark room, or architecture seen at dusk — hush, depth, material, not a demo and not a HUD. One dominant form. Generous negative space. A disciplined palette: two neutrals, one metal, one ember or one cold fire — not a rainbow. Light has a source and a falloff; pick two and do them well: caustics, thin-film iridescence, subsurface glow, filament-bright edges, soft bloom, film grain. Motion has hush: slow phase, sudden small glints, almost-stillness between gestures. Starts beautiful at frame 0, before the first mouse move. Depth by scale and occlusion, not by stacking effects. No stock AI-slop gradients, no scanlines-as-style, no lens-flare stickers, no glassmorphism cards.
Chrome, if any: a tiny hideable wordmark — one invented proper name and a quiet subtitle of six words or fewer. No dashboard, no sliders, no hamburger, no "Welcome", no instructions paragraph, no Inter headings.
UNIQUENESS If you have seen this page before, you failed. Do not remake a sky, a sanctuary of light, an editorial planet, or a nebula you sit inside. Make the thing only this brief could have produced.
